We Get Up and Running for Charity Relay Challenge

Newby Castlemain EmployeesEight employees from the Leicester office recently donned their trainers and gave up their Sunday morning to compete against some of the region’s top companies in a corporate charity run.

We entered two teams of four runners into the Freeth Cartwright Corporate Relay Challenge, with each person running at least 3.25 miles and raising important funds for LOROS and the Matt Hampson Foundation.

The course started and finished at Victoria Park in Leicester, heading along Melton Road and right the way out to Thurmaston and Syston, before going around the Watermead Country Park and returning back to the city.

Over £3,000 was raised on the day alone through entry fees amongst the teams, with more money coming in through sponsorship forms.

Dipesh Joshi, who ran the third leg for his team around the Watermead Country Park, comments, “This was the second year I’ve taken part in this challenge. Even though I don’t usually run, I like to take part in this event as it’s for a good cause and I practiced by running around the block at home several times until I’d reached the required distance. This year we had some new runners alongside those who have competed before, but everyone took the course in their stride and it was a really enjoyable event.”

Congratulations to all those who took part: Dipesh, Kirk Bailey, Jude Carvalho and Rebecca Tosh in the first team, who finished in 19th place, and Stuart Mayfield, Sam Caffrey, Matt Raine and Tony Deane in the second team, who finished not far behind.

Chris Castleman, Partner, adds, “As a firm we strongly believe it is important to help out in the local community and we regularly enter teams into charity challenges and fun competitions such as this. Not only did the corporate relay challenge act as a good team building exercise between colleagues but it also raised much needed funds for two deserving local charities.”
