Loyalty begins at home

February 2011

Eight employees here at Newby Castleman have accrued over 300 years of service between them.

Newby Castlemain employeesThe eight, who are all based at our head office in Leicester, have all worked for the firm for over 30 years each.

Secretaries Wendy Dacey and Lynda O’Shea lead the way with 48 years and 44 years service respectively, whilst Steve Plant, Brent Goodwin, Roger Herrick, Peter Newland, Lee Morton and Ann Portwood have all between 31 and 39 years experience at the firm each.

Wendy, who lives in Wigston, first joined in 1960 when it was based in King Street. She comments, “I initially joined Newby Castleman as a junior aged 16 but progressed having completed shorthand and typing courses. Over the years technology has certainly made life a lot easier for us, with PCs now instead of typewriters and photocopiers instead of carbon paper, which means we can get much more done than we perhaps were used to.”

Reflecting on the number of long service employees here, she adds, “The best aspect of the job is the people. Everyone gets on so well here, it’s a very friendly firm and I’m not surprised that so many colleagues have been here for so long.”

Chris Castleman, Managing Partner says, “With research showing that staff turnover costs UK businesses £42bn a year, the importance of retaining key staff is increasingly more important for companies. Since the firm was established nearly 60 years ago, we have strived to retain the caring and personal touch, not just amongst our clients but also our employees. This is clearly reflected in the long service provided by these eight outstanding members of staff who are almost ‘part of the woodwork’ here.

He adds, “Continuity and stability breeds confidence in any business and all eight employees should be proud at playing a substantial role in the success of the firm over the last four decades.”
