New Trainees Arrive At Firm

September 2011

We are delighted to welcome three new arrivals as part of our annual trainee scheme.

Michael Frost (21), Catherine Driver (21) and Rebecca Tosh (18) have all joined our head office on Regent Road in Leicester, having been selected from more than 375 school leavers and graduates who applied, hoping to break into the accountancy profession.

Michael and Catherine joined following their academic studies at the University of Leicester and both have already spent time working with the firm, enjoying one month and two week’s work experience here respectively whilst at university. Both are now studying for their Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA) examinations.

Michael, from Gilmorton near Lutterworth, graduated this summer with a BA (Hons) in Economics and Law. He comments, "I am delighted to have joined Newby Castleman. From an early age I’d considered a job in business and finance and my work experience here last year convinced me that accountancy is the career I’d like to pursue. Everyone has been very welcoming and extremely helpful.”

Catherine, originally from Dorset, also graduated this year with a Bsc in Mathematics. She says, “I’ve always been good with numbers and even when I was seven or eight my grandpa told me I should go into this profession. Naturally at that age I wanted to do the complete opposite but as time went on I realised maths was my strongest subject and I really enjoyed it. My work experience at the firm was great fun and I was delighted to be offered a trainee place here following my degree.”

Unlike her two colleagues Rebecca, from Broughton Astley, decided against higher education and joins the firm having studied Maths, Business and Accounts at Lutterworth College. She is now studying for her Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification.

"I’ve always enjoyed working," she says, "and I was keen to start a job after college and learn through experience rather than attend university and end up in debt. I’ve always liked finance so when I saw the trainee positions at Newby Castleman I decided to apply. I was delighted to be accepted and in my short time at the firm so far I’ve been helping to prepare client accounts and also begun to work towards my accountancy qualifications.”

Chris Castleman, Managing Partner, says, "We are delighted to welcome Michael, Catherine and Rebecca as our trainees for this year. We have placed a strong emphasis on employing successful graduates and school leavers for many years now as they are the future of this profession and are always extremely keen to continue their education in a practical sense. All three have proved, even in this short space of time, that they are hardworking individuals and I am sure they will be highly successful in both their studies and their careers at Newby Castleman."
