The Grainstore Brewery: Follow-up
Our longstanding client and award-winning brewery, The Grainstore Brewery, is set for further expansion after recently undergoing a management buyout.
Thanks to our expert advice, The Grainstore Brewery in Oakham, Rutland, has recently changed ownership following the retirement of one of its founders, Tony Davis.
The business, which brews and supplies traditional English ales to a selection of trade outlets, wholesalers and beer festivals nationwide, will see Tony’s son William Davis and his business partner, Peter Atkinson, keep the family tradition alive as they take over the business.
Tony founded the Grainstore Brewery with his friend Mike Davies in 1995 after his former career as Head Brewer and Production Director at Ruddles Brewery, and today the company is recognised as one of the best real ale breweries in Britain.
The Grainstore has used our services for their annual accounts, auditing and pension planning for just over 20 years and did not hesitate to call upon us for advice when going through the management buyout process.
Director, Peter Atkinson, said: “Newby Castleman were fantastic during the management transition and helped the process run as smoothly as possible, without too much interruption to the business as a whole.
Having dealt with them previously, we knew we could rely on them and trust them to advise us on the best decisions.”
William added, “Newby Castleman are extremely knowledgeable in what they do. They talked us through the different options and are forward thinking in their advice. They have made a significant contribution to our ongoing success and we look forward to working with them in the future as they help us further grow as a business.”
John Griffin, Partner at our Leicester office, said, “It’s a pleasure to back local businesses such as The Grainstore Brewery.
It was important to support Peter and William during the management buyout transition so they could concentrate on the day-to-day running of the brewery, without the financial pressures that came along the way.”
Grainstore Brewery currently employs around 20 people and plans to increase production at its premises on Station Approach in Oakham over the next three to four years. With new management now in place, the brewery has launched its own members’ club for its customers, as well as offering a brewing experience weekend for the public.
