In celebration of International Day of Charity (5th September), we have named Midlands-wide charity The Air Ambulance Service as our official Charity of the Year.

Having supported Hope Against Cancer for the last two years, we are getting our support for the Air Ambulance off the ground with a cake and bake sale at our Head Office on Regent Road, Leicester to mark the internationally observed day.

The Air Ambulance Service operates two ambulances – Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance – and runs entirely on donations, receiving no government funding. The charity’s critical care teams are on call 24/7, 365 days a year responding to emergency callouts, and can get patients to hospital within that “golden hour” as well as reach patients in remote and rural areas.

Vicky Evans, Air Ambulance Community Fundraising Executive for Leicestershire & Rutland, says: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Newby Castleman for choosing us to be their new Charity of the Year.

“Here at The Air Ambulance Service we’re very grateful for any and all support, from individuals and businesses alike, as we depend wholly on these donations to keep running, to maintain our lifesaving work and to ensure we can continue to be there for those who need us.”

The International Day of Charity was first declared by the UN in 2012, with 5th September chosen as it commemorates the anniversary of the death of iconic missionary and charity worker Mother Teresa. Now in its seventh year, the event day encourages donations, awareness-raising and other charitable contributions from UN member states, businesses and individuals.

Partner Stephen Castleman says: “As an established company in Leicestershire and Rutland, we are keen to support charities that do vital work in the region. Air Ambulance is an indispensable organisation and we are proud and delighted to begin our support for this essential service.”
