Anil Dhain – ACA:
From a young age, I always loved working with numbers. For this reason I took on a Mathematics degree at The University of Leicester but never really knew what I wanted to do as a career whilst I was studying. It was only after attending a few careers fairs I started to realise that my numerical skills lay in Accounts and Finance. In my penultimate year of my Masters degree in Mathematics I decided to apply to Newby Castleman as it was renowned for its services and good reputation across the East Midlands and beyond. I knew that if I was offered a place in a firm outside the big four I would be given the opportunity to develop much broader knowledge and skills behind accountancy. This made Newby Castleman even more appealing to apply to.
After going through the application stage and finding out that I had been offered a position as an Audit and Advisory Trainee, I was delighted to know that I would be training amongst such competent accountants. All I had to do now was complete my degree!
Graduating with a first in my Masters degree, I started working with Newby Castleman in September 2013. It was daunting knowing that I had another 3 more years of studying, but at the same time the prospects for the future were much more appealing.
6 months in, and I have already completed the first 6 knowledge stage exams for the ACA qualification with ICAEW; so I am well on the way to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Not only that, the level of support provided by the staff at Newby Castleman during my first 6 months has been one of the best. They have guided me with the preparation of accounts and tax computations for clients but at the same time made me feel very welcome through a variety of social events.
Newby Castleman has a great working ethic and continues to use its size for worthy causes such as having a ‘dress down day’ in support of charity, which is just one of the great perks of working with them. There are many firms offering Accounts and Finance services, but I have never been happier being part of the Newby Castleman team.
