Sam Caffrey

Sam CaffreyI joined Newby Castleman in May 2010 as a part qualified accountant studying towards my final Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams. After lots of hard work, I qualified in February 2011!

I previously worked for a small firm of accountants in Leicestershire, which I joined after school, and began studying for the Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) exams. After two years, I completed my AAT exams after which I progressed to the ACCA exams.

Studying whilst working full time is hard work, but the rewards of passing make it all worthwhile. As a training firm, Newby Castleman have supported me in my studies and enabled me to continue with my qualification.

Since working at Newby Castleman, I have had the opportunity to deal with a wide variety of clients. Whilst I already had experience in preparing accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, I have had the opportunity to expand this experience to auditing companies and preparing accounts for larger limited companies. I frequently work on site at clients’ premises to carry out the work, giving me the opportunity to interact with clients and gain a greater understanding of their business.

Since my first day with the firm, I have been made to feel at home. The great atmosphere amongst the staff means there are lots of social events to get involved in. This can be anything from bowling to the firm wide car treasure hunt. In October, I also took part in the Leicester Marathon Corporate Relay, being part of one of three teams made up of staff from the Leicester and Loughborough offices. It was a great way to keep fit and socialise outside the working atmosphere.
