Level 7 Accountancy & Professional Taxation Apprenticeship
1. Your route into the (Level 7 Accountancy and Professional Taxation) Apprenticeship
I initially became interested in accountancy because I enjoyed working with figures. I completed my AAT Levels 2, 3 & 4, alongside gaining experience at an accounting firm. The combination of study and practical experience naturally led me to progress onto an ICAEW apprenticeship with Newby Castleman.
2. The work/study mix: what has surprised you?
I’ve been surprised by how closely my ACA studies link to my day-to-day work, which has helped reinforce my learning. While balancing work and exams can be challenging at times, it has significantly improved my time-management and organisational skills.
3. What advice would you give your 18-year-old self now?
I would tell my 18 year old self to be patient and trust the process, as progression in accountancy can take time. I’d also stress the importance of staying organised, asking questions early, and keeping on top of studying rather than leaving it until the last minute!
Level 7 Accountancy & Professional Taxation Apprenticeship
1. Your route into the (Level 7 Accountancy and Professional Taxation) Apprenticeship
I was considering doing an accounting and finance masters after getting my undergraduate degree when a lecturer approached me and told me to also consider a level 7 apprenticeship which is not only equivalent to a master’s degree but would also allow me to get on the job experience while working towards my professional qualification. After much research, I decided that this was the best option to take and here I am today!
2. The work/study mix: what has surprised you? I knew the level 7 apprenticeship wasn’t going to be easy but the thing that surprised me the most is just how much support there is available. I’m never left to feel as though I’m alone on this journey with ample support and advice available from colleagues, partners and talent coaches throughout the process.
3. What advice would you now give to your 18-year-old self?
If I had a time machine and could give past me a piece of advice, I would tell 18-year-old me to keep persevering because no matter how difficult something may seem, with hard work and determination, nothing is impossible!
